Working Together to Stop Domestic Violence Around the World

Recently, the founder of a New York television station aimed at countering Muslim stereotypes, Muzzammil Hassan, was charged with killing his wife, Aasiya Zubair Hassan, by beheading her after a history of domestic violence and abuse.  The news story has flashed around the country and around the world as the public seeks to understand the nature of the violence and if it relates to the belief systems of Muslims and the teachings of Islam.

Healing Medicine

casey-gwinn-bio1-sAt our YWCA All-Staff Meeting the other day, we put up baby pictures of many of the staff and then everybody had to guess who each baby was in the pictures.  It was no small challenge!  I even guessed one baby was our Director of Facilities.  Unfortunately, Jeff’s picture was not up on the wall but instead I had picked another woman on our staff!  Oops.  We all laughed a lot during that exercise!  Later in the meeting we gave out awards to recognize excellence in the work of many on our staff from janitors, to advocates, to development staff, to counselors.  It was a good two hour meeting.  Later in the week, our National Family Justice Center Alliance team went out to dinner to enjoy fellowship with Rebecca Lovelace (Nampa, Idaho FJC Director) who was in town for the Chadwick Conference on Child Maltreatment.  We laughed and laughed about all kinds of things for about two hours while enjoying a nice dinner at a Latin American restaurant in Old Town.
